On Feb. 19, 2009 Jari sent out the following: An interesting point of view! British Editorial on Obama's Victory The Daily Mail (UK) wrote this editorial about Obama on 1/6/2009. (confirmation, Google "London Daily Mail Obama's Victory") Obama's Victory--A British view A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the US mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over reality. A victory for Hollywood , the most dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros, Moore, and Sarandon. Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion. Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced, without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition. A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity. A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs. Congratulations America! Your funeral will be sooner than you think! |
On Feb. 19, 2009 Babbling Bob chimed in with: Well stated. Too bad most of our liberally tilted brethren will never see the wisdom in this piece. In fact, I suspect an attack from the left will descend upon how the author of this opinion must be contemptible for considering that we Americans have sailed into socialism and all the trappings of mediocrity that go with it. Those who don’t understand history are doomed to repeat it. |
Bob-the-Good observed: First of all, I rigorously Googled "London Daily Mail Obama's Victory", as well as other iterations of that search text, and found NOTHING related on the paper's website. So, it is most likely the 'editorial' was only the vaporous ranting of another local right-winger, more concerned with his ability to influence, and the sound of his own voice, than the furtherance of political discussion. With that in mind, I'll respond to this annonomous ranter's first paragraph: Is Oprah hysterical? No more than all land dwelling mammals; on occasion (including us)! Did the US mainstream media abandon any sense of objectivity long ago? Yep. They sure did. And it was exquisitely apparent during the Bush administration. The media failed us when it:
Is Jeremiah Wright a mad racist? I would expect more blacks of Jeremiah Wright's age to 'Damn America' as he did. He was born into the segregated schools of a nation that had yet to recognize the equality of all citizens. His great-grand-parents were enslaved by a country that adhere's (even today) to a bible that rebukes pre-marital sex while accepting the enslavement of human beings. Still, in 1961 Wright left college to join the U S Marine Corps. Then, in 1963, he joined the U S Navy, trained as a cardiopulmonary technician and was assigned to the medical team caring for President Johnson. Before leaving the position in 1967, the White House Physician wrote Wright a letter of thanks on behalf of President Johnson. Jeremiah Wright is certainly (and rightfully) dismayed at how the US treated its black population. With the evidence of Wright's responsible and patriotic service to America, including its whites, we can safely assume he is not an insane racist. Is Obama "A man who has done little with his life"? Let's see. He was a black child, raised in a lower income broken home. He put himself through school to become the first black president of the Harvard Law Review and later taught constitutional law at one of America's most prestigious law schools. Clearly, the writer who asked this question is intent on shaping the opinions of the ignorant. Did the writer shape your opinion... huh? I gotta stop now. It's useless to respond to this swill. There are none so blind as those who will not see. |
Bob the Good added: Published on 2-20-09 in Maine Today - Portland Maine (20 miles from Bush's old home town.) These are difficult times for Republicans, and they should be, given what George W. Bush and his party have done to America. The final denial on the part of Republicans seeking solace needs to be dispelled, lest too many Americans think it is true. This fallacy says that, at the very least, through a self-justified shredding of American principles that had been honored by every president (even Richard Nixon), Bush kept America "safe." When Bush took the office he did not win in 2000, he could not have cared less about terrorism. He fired terrorism czar Richard Clarke. He fractured effective, meticulous networks of communications. The Bush Justice Department tried to keep information offered by FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds out of court. Apparently intercepts just prior to 9/11 revealed the terror plot but were largely ignored, even by Bush, who either didn't read his daily presidential brief while on vacation in Texas or did nothing. The administration allowed a Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan. Bush skewed information to wage an unnecessary war in Iraq. This war has been not only costly and waged on false pretenses, but has depleted American resources and served as a marvelous recruiting tool for foreign extremists. Republican revisionism appears based on the notion that Americans skip the details. Bush did not keep America safe. Al Gore, the president Americans elected in 2000, would have both read and taken action on his daily brief. He would not has dissembled our security apparatus, as Bush did as soon as he 'took' office. Gore would have kept America both safe and prosperous. |
